Cricket Game

WATERSFIELD CC VS SCC SLAM XI

May 4th 2022

We travelled to play a very strong Watersfield team who had a couple of players who play 5 divisions higher than us. On a dull dark night the skipper won the toss and elected to field. Watersfield started like a steam train hitting us to all parts of the ground until Ian, Steven and Andy gradually slowed the run rate down with the help of excellent fielding on an interesting bumpy outfield. We restricted Watersfield to 168 for 4 with wickets for Ian with 2 for 20, Brent 1 for 47 and Steve 1 for 27. There were 2 catches for Ian and 1 for Craig. This looked a very challenging total until our opening pair of Will Whitehead and Ben Homewood brutally took the Watersfield bowling apart with a 103 run opening partnership ( Ben got 48 and Will 28). Once they got out it was difficult for the new batsman as it was very dark but stubborn batting from Gus got us to 138 for 5 with 6 overs to spare before the umpires sensibly decided it was too dangerous to continue which meant we won the game on duckworth Lewis scoring. Another great result and a thank you to Jo for scoring and H for umpiring.

Well done team it was a case of May the force be with us (May the 4th) lol.

We now look forward to a trip to Petworth Park Saturday to take on Findon 3rds.

On behalf of the team I'd like to wish the 2nd eleven all the best in the first league match Saturday.

EAST PRESTON CC 2ND XI VS SCC 1ST XI

April 30th 2022

We headed into the first game of the season at East Preston at the start of a new era for Storrington cricket club. Exciting times lie ahead with 2 teams this season and I’d like to take this opportunity to wish Guy, Fish and all the players a great season and excited to see the players performing well and pushing for places in the 1st Team.

We were wary of going to East Preston with their 1st x1 not having a team and myself with several players unavailable. I won the toss and elected to field first. A slow start with only 1 wicket in the first 10 overs but we slow started to take wickets at regular intervals. Excellent bowling performances from Steven Livermore with 3 wickets ably supported by Rin Tomsett with 1 Brent Fforde with 1 and the expensive skipper with 2 wickets. Also 1 superb run out from David Livermore who performance in the field was incredible probably saving the team 20 runs in the field.

A good all-round performance in the field with 2 superb catches from Laurence Nash and Charlie Brown as well as a great stumping from Mark Haggart. We restricted East Preston to 220 for 8 which we felt was a par score on the small pitch. We opened the batting with our 2 young lads Mark and Miles Scerri who took to the East Preston bowlers like they had been playing all season.

An opening partnership of 105 before Miles was caught for an excellent 68. He was then followed to the crease by another young man in Gus Humphries who continued the run feast reaching 21 before departing. A sensible innings from Ian Homewood of 31 whilst watching Mark Haggart continue to play all round the wicket for his superb unbeaten 68 got the team home with 2 overs to spare.

A brilliant win to start the season and we now look forward to our Sussex slam game at Watersfield on Wednesday before a trip to Findon next Saturday.
