Clubhouse Development Project

Who is Storrington Cricket Club: Run by the community FOR the community

  • Storrington Cricket Club is one of the oldest cricket clubs in the country, it was established in 1793

  • We are one of the founding clubs of the Sussex Invitation Cricket League which then went on to become the Sussex Cricket League

  • The club has enjoyed many highs and lows over its 4 centuries

  • More recently, over the past 8 years, the club has progressed from 1 Senior league side to a thriving hub of cricket across:

    • 2 Senior league sides for Saturday cricket

    • 1 Sunday XI focused on development cricket, progressing kids from junior cricket to senior cricket

    • No kids set up has progressed to mixed cricket at u9,u10,u12, u13 with girls cricket at u9 and u13

    • Girls cricket was established in 2021 where we jumped from 2 girls to over 25 girls

    • We started Women’s cricket in 2024 and this summer we shall have our first women's league cricket team

    • Women and Girls cricket has become a HUGE part of our club

    • We became a Disability Champion Club in Sussex in 2024 and we have plans to grow this area over the next 3-5 years

    • We currently have 3 boys on the Sussex Junior Pathway, 2 girls on the Sussex Girls pathway and 1 on the Hampshire pathway with 1 girl on the MCC region Foundation

Our 3-5 year plan for Storrington Cricket Club:

  • Continue growth and development across our whole club and member base to ensure we provide cricket opportunity for both the immediate local community AND surrounding area. Provide a clubhouse that can be utilised by our whole membership AND the community.

  • Senior Cricket: Utilise our senior cricket teams as a vehicle to provide opportunity of progression to our junior boys and girls whilst maintaining a fun and competitive environment for our existing senior members. We also aim to have more women participating in league cricket

  • Women’s Cricket: To progress from just softball cricket to offering both hardball and softball league cricket. Take participation levels from 25 to 50+

  • Girls cricket: continued growth of participation levels with more girls teams, taking participation levels from 22 to 35+

  • Mixed Colts Cricket: aim is to have teams at each age group

  • Disability cricket: our growth in this area is exponentially linked to having facilities to cater for disabled members. We predict our growth rates will double in 2025 to 10 members then steadily growth to over 25 members by 2028

Our Current Clubhouse
It is not fit for purpose

With over 40 Womens and Girls members and a new group of DIScover ABILITY members, our current clubhouse doesn’t offer the necessary facilities to adhere to ECB Welfare guidelines.

In summary:

  • There is only one toilet facility for females

  • No toilet facilities for wheelchair users

  • No changing room facilities for females or junior players

  • Wheelchair users cannot access the clubhouse due to the entrance having steps

  • Males have to access the toilet through changing rooms which is a welfare issue

  • Wiring and other aspects not up to current building regulations
