Storrington Cricket Club Welcomes £2 Million Investment in the Future of Community Sport

 

Storrington Cricket Club is delighted to welcome the announcement that Storrington & Sullington Parish Council has secured a £2 million Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) award from Horsham District Council to deliver the Chanctonbury Recreation Hub project.

 

The funding represents the largest award made through the latest round of CIL funding and will transform community sports facilities across the village, including significant investment in Chanctonbury Leisure Centre, Storrington Football Pavilion and the construction of a brand-new Storrington Cricket Pavilion.

 

For our club, this is a landmark moment.

 

For many years, Storrington Cricket Club has worked hard to provide opportunities for people of all ages to enjoy cricket, develop new skills and be part of a thriving community club. As participation has continued to grow, it has become increasingly clear that our existing pavilion is no longer able to meet the needs of our members, visitors and the wider community.

 

As part of the Chanctonbury Recreation Hub project, the cricket club will receive an entirely new pavilion built from the ground up. This new facility will replace the existing building and provide a purpose-built home for cricket, creating accessible changing facilities, improved social and community spaces, and a welcoming environment that will support the continued growth of the club for generations to come.

 

This investment is about much more than buildings. It is about creating a community hub that promotes sport, health, wellbeing and social connection for residents across Storrington and the surrounding villages.

 

We would like to thank Storrington & Sullington Parish Council for leading the successful funding bid, together with Horsham District Council for recognising the importance of investing in community infrastructure. We also acknowledge the many volunteers, partners and stakeholders who have supported the vision over recent years.

 

The project now moves into its next phase, with professional teams being appointed to develop the detailed designs, planning applications and delivery programme. We look forward to working closely with the Parish Council and our partners throughout this process and to engaging with our members and the wider community as the proposals develop.

 

This is an exciting milestone, but it is only the beginning. We remain committed to helping shape a pavilion and wider Recreation Hub that reflects the needs of our community and leaves a lasting legacy for future generations.
