SUNDAY DEVELOPMENT XI

First fixture for our mixed Cygnet and Adults team

Played on Sunday 1st September on a beautifully sunny day, perfect for cricket, at the lovely Parham ground, with plentiful support for our Storrington side.

Parham batted first and notched up a very healthy 211 – 4 wickets. First senior wickets for Daniel Hunton and Tom Fisher our highlights alongside thee excellent catches and fine committed fielding all afternoon.

After tea Storrington struggled early on losing six wickets in the first dozen overs for less than 50 runs, before James Harrington, our U11 coach, and Martin Fisher, U14 coach, fought back with some lusty blows.

Reaching 100 with 7 wickets down and 10 overs to play out for the draw, it then got very nervy at 9 wickets down with 10 year old Thomas Wroe, who represented Sussex at District level this season, coming in to join Martin Fisher with 5 overs to see out. Thomas took his fair share of the strike, with confidence, and with a drop catch on the penultimate ball faced by Martin, Thomas had the strike on the last ball of the game against the Parham opening bowler. To the watching crowd’s delight, Thomas played yet another perfect forward defensive shot, to see out the draw at 136 – 9 wickets.

Great credit to the players, with the Cygnets all asking when they can play the next Development Team match – fabulous!

We look forwards to many more matches such as this next season – any readers wishing to potentially join the club themselves, perhaps after a “rest from the beautiful game over time”, or to inquire about new juniors joining, please contact Martin Fisher, Colts Manager, on 07850 416886  – this Development Cricket could be fun for you too, supporting your local club?
