STORRINGTON CC U13 VS HORSHAM CC U13
Wednesday 12th May
The u13 Cygnets welcome Horsham CC to the SCG for the first meeting between both sides. Storrington won the toss and elected to put Horsham in to bat.
Once again the opening bowling pair of Thomas W and Jamie F combined to put the opposition under pressure claiming 3 wickets in the first 4 overs. It was this point that Horsham utilised two very gifted batsmen and between them both put on a stand of 68 runs. This partnership changed the fortunes of the game and flipped the pressure on to the young SCC side.
Oscar S contributed with two caught and bowled wickets and Jamie F claimed another wicket with a beautiful delivery.
Horsham finished their innings on 131 - 7.
This was the first match this group of cricketers had played in over a year and the lack of match play showed. Horsham came out the blocks firing accurate deliveries at the Cygnets opening pair. SCC were three wickets down inside the first three overs.
Jamie F and Thomas W halted the wickets for a few overs with a few boundaries scored but unfortunately both were bowled with some good deliveries from the Horsham bowlers.
Harrison O and Ollie B were the Anderson and Panesar of the SCC team, both demonstrated great defensive strokes and protected their wicket which frustrated the Horsham attack but unfortunately their guile was not enough to win the match.
Horsham CC were worthy winners in this contest, SCC could only manage 75 - 9 in their 20 overs in reply to Horsham’s 131 - 7. Plenty of experience to gain from this match and the SCC players can take this experience on to their next match.
Congratulations Horsham. Onwards and upwards to an away game Vs West Chiltington and Thakeham on Wednesday 19th May.
BARNS GREEN CC U11 VS STORRINGTON CC U11
Tuesday 11th May
On another balmy May evening the under 11’s travelled to Barns Green full of excitement and expectation.
Storrington bowled first and gave the opposition very few scoring opportunities. Despite some good bowling they were only rewarded with 1 wicket taken by Massimo.
The batting performance wasn’t as successful with wickets regularly falling. In fairness to the boys, they were facing one of the most accomplished and accurate bowling attacks, ever witnessed by any of the Storrington spectators.
A special mention must go to Ben Davis who scored a brilliant boundary and batted really well on debut (pronounced day boo if you’re an Aussie).
Next up Local derby home against West Chilt Tuesday 18th.
STEYNING CC U13 VS STORRINGTON CC U13
Wednesday 5th May 2021
Storrington u13 travelled to Steyning CC for their first league match of the 2021 season. We arrived to cold, windy weather with rain coming towards us over the South Downs.
We started the match with Jamie F bowling the first ball, it was a fantastic delivery that took the bails clean off the stumps, as the celebrations finished the umpire was shepherding the players off the pitch as the rain began to lash down.
After 10 minutes we resumed the match and Jamie finished bowling his over, constantly challenging the batsmen with his speed and accurate lines.
Thomas W bowled the second over and took a wicket with a fine delivery that beat the batsman, Storrington were on the march.. until the rain started coming down again. Cue another break off the field of play.
Once we came on the pitch for the third time Thomas slotted straight back in to the attack, encouraging the batsman to come forward to a delivery and he popped the ball in the air for Jamie F to take an easy catch. Jamie and Thomas bowled their second overs and again put the Steyning batters under pressure, bowling tight lines and not giving the opposition any free balls to hit.
Storrington then rotated the bowling attack with Harry F, George H and Jem all bowling well. Unfortunately the weather wouldn’t hold off and the outfield became too wet to continue, the match was abandoned.
Storrington Cygnets put on a class bowling display that would put most teams under pressure. Whilst we didn’t get to finish the match we can takes those positives with us to our next game which is at home to Horsham CC on Wednesday 12th May.
STORRINGTON U11 VS HORSHAM U11
Tuesday 4th May 2021
The under 11’s hosted Horsham on a tropical Tuesday evening. Storrington batted first and posted a creditable 283. All of the players contributed well, showing great progress from last season. The most notable shot was a boundary by Taylor, which was described by Fish as being Gordon Greenidge esc.
Horsham batted really well with some of their Sussex development players scoring heavily. All the Storrington players showed great skills but a special mention goes to Massimo who took 2 wickets in his first competitive hard ball over.
Ultimately Storrington came up just short against a vastly more experienced side but all the coaches and spectators were impressed by the high quality of cricket played by both sides.
